Czech-Slovak miniseries on Ján Kuciak murder

Overview

Czech Television announced plans to co-produce a six-part miniseries titled ‘Naši lidé’ (Our People), directed by Tereza Nvotová. The series, scheduled for release in spring 2025, examines the 2018 murders of investigative journalist Ján Kuciak and his fiancée, Martina Kušnírová, while exploring themes of corruption and political clientelism in Slovakia. Producers noted that Czech co-production was necessary because no Slovak broadcaster was willing to undertake the subject.

Following the production, Martina Kušnírová’s mother, Zlatica Kušnírová, reviewed five of the six episodes. She described the work as ‘very strong and very well-processed,’ specifically noting the convincing portrayal of her daughter. However, she expressed concerns that the broadcast might trigger a resurgence of personal attacks and public scrutiny regarding her private life and finances.
