Daimler Buses electric vehicle development

Overview

Daimler Buses is advancing its electric vehicle infrastructure and vehicle development in Germany. In late September 2026, the company announced plans to open a third public electric bus charging hub at the Hamburg Central Bus Station in 2027. This brand-independent facility, powered by renewable energy, is intended to support the electrification of intercity and coach travel.

By mid-October 2026, efforts expanded to vehicle testing through the Electrified Coach (ELCH) research project. In collaboration with research institutes and the transport company Flix, Daimler Buses conducted test drives for an electric long-distance coach prototype in Neu-Ulm. The project aims to develop a battery-powered touring coach capable of exceeding a 500-kilometer range on a single charge, supporting the company’s goal to offer battery-electric coaches under the Mercedes-Benz and Setra brands by 2030.
