Dak Lak illegal charity and misinformation investigation
Overview
Authorities in Dak Lak province summoned a woman, identified as C. T. T. H., regarding illegal charity solicitation and the spread of false information.
The investigation follows the disappearance of a Chinese tourist, Z. L., who was swept away at Tuy Hoa beach on August 7. Police stated that Ms. H. violated regulations concerning the voluntary collection and distribution of donations by organizing unauthorized fundraising for the victim’s family.
Furthermore, authorities alleged that during a TikTok livestream on August 14, Ms. H. made false statements that “negatively impacted the reputation of the police force.” While Ms. H. admitted to the violations, she maintained that she did not profit from the donations, claiming all funds were handed over to the victim’s family in the presence of witnesses.
