Danantara Indonesia Makkah hospitality acquisitions
Overview
Danantara Indonesia, through its subsidiary PT Danantara Investment Management, has completed the acquisition of 4.4 hectares of land in the Thakher Makkah area of Saudi Arabia and the Novotel Thakher Makkah hotel. The hotel facility includes 1,461 rooms and suites.
These transactions follow a strategic agreement made in December 2025 with the Thakher Development Company. The investment is intended to strengthen the Hajj and Umrah service ecosystem by providing integrated accommodation, retail, and support services. The land is also designated for the development of an Indonesian Hajj Village.
Mustolih Siradj, Chairman of the National Commission for Hajj and Umrah, stated that the move aims to increase Indonesia’s independence in managing pilgrimage services by owning assets directly. While the acquisition seeks to improve service quality and accommodation certainty, Siradj noted that asset ownership does not automatically guarantee lower costs and requires careful business planning to ensure benefits for pilgrims.
