D’Angelo Russell career transition

Overview

In late September 2026, the Memphis Grizzlies waived veteran guard D’Angelo Russell to manage the team’s salary cap and roster requirements. Russell, a former All-Star on an expiring $6 million contract, was released ahead of the NBA training camp. To fill the vacancy, the Grizzlies signed undrafted rookie Brendan Hausen to an Exhibit 10 contract.

Following his release from Memphis, Russell transitioned from the NBA to the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA), signing a contract with the Shanghai Sharks.
