Daniel Oprița coaching status at Steaua

Speculation regarding the coaching status of Daniel Oprița at Steaua has evolved from initial denials to reports of an imminent departure.

On August 19, CSA Steaua commander Eduard Danilof denied reports that Oprița intended to resign following a difficult start to the Liga 2 season. Danilof stated that the club had not received an official resignation and confirmed Oprița remained the manager, citing player injuries and plans to strengthen the roster as primary concerns.

By August 23, the situation shifted as Oprița appeared set to leave the club following internal tensions. After a 2-2 draw against Dumbrăvița, in which the team played with only seven players for a significant portion of the match, Oprița criticized certain squad members for lacking attitude and failing to meet club standards. Club official Eduard Danilof indicated that a scheduled meeting would likely result in the termination of Oprița’s contract, noting the coach had expressed a desire to leave.

Following a tenure of seven years, Oprița has reached an agreement with club leadership to terminate his contract. His departure follows a poor start to the season, during which the team earned only one point in four matches. The exit occurs amid reported financial difficulties at Steaua, including a 30% budget reduction, and dissatisfaction with squad depth.

Reports suggest Oprița may join Chindia Târgoviște. Meanwhile, Steaua management intends to address the crisis by strengthening the squad with Romanian and Spanish players, while former player Eugen Trică has expressed interest in the vacant position.
