Danish school academic performance trends

Recent reports and studies have highlighted varying levels of academic performance and teaching effectiveness across the Danish education system.

Data from specific municipalities showed strong results in Vesthimmerland and Kolding. In Vesthimmerland, 94.4 percent of 9th-grade students achieved at least a grade of 02 in Danish and mathematics, exceeding the national average. In Kolding, schools demonstrated a high “lifting capacity,” performing better than expected based on students' socioeconomic backgrounds, with Munkevænget School noted as a top national performer.

A subsequent study by the think tank CEPOS analyzed the “teaching effect” across different school types. The report found that private and independent schools generally outperformed public and residential schools in raising student achievement. For example, Herlev Privatskole maintained high rankings for its ability to exceed socioeconomic grade expectations. Conversely, the study noted that 64 percent of independent schools showed a positive teaching effect, compared to 40 percent of public schools, while some specific public schools in Herlev exhibited negative teaching effects.
