Danish teen disappearance and recovery

Overview

On 4 August 2026, a 15-year-old girl from Hedensted, Denmark, disappeared, prompting an international search coordinated by South-East Jutland police, Europol, and Hungarian authorities. On 6 August, the teenager was located alive and unharmed in the town of Újiráz, near the Romanian border, in the Hajdú-Bihar province.

A 22-year-old Hungarian man has been detained in absentia on suspicion of unlawful deprivation of liberty. The suspect claims the two were in a relationship that began on the gaming platform Roblox approximately 18 months ago and asserts that he traveled to Denmark to meet her under the impression she was 18. Danish authorities continue to pursue the investigation into possible criminal conduct despite the suspect's claims.
