Death of Brazilian actress Lua Blanco

Overview

Brazilian actress and singer Lua Blanco died on October 18, 2026, at the age of 39 after a battle with intestinal cancer. Blanco was widely recognized for her role as Roberta Messi in the television adaptation of ‘Rebelde Brasil’ and for her musical lineage as the granddaughter of Bossa Nova icon Billy Blanco. Her brother, Daniel Blanco, confirmed her death via social media, noting she passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends. Her partner, actor and screenwriter Leandro Soares, released an emotional tribute on Instagram, calling her ‘my favorite person in the world’. Despite his grief, Soares announced he would proceed with the final performances of the play ‘A Coisa’, a production where Blanco had contributed her expertise in visagism. Following her death, members of the ‘Rebelde Brasil’ cast reunited for the first time in 13 years to attend her wake. Cast members, including Arthur Aguiar, Sophia Abrahão, Chay Suede, Mel Fronckowiak, and Micael Borges, gathered to honor her legacy. Aguiar noted that the group chose to take a smiling photograph to honor Blanco’s wishes, emphasizing the importance of living in the moment and expressing affection while people are still alive. Blanco’s sister, Sol Blanco, provided insight into the artist’s final days, stating that Lua remained in good spirits, maintained her sense of humor, and was at peace throughout her illness. Her father, musician Billy Blanco Jr., also shared a tribute reflecting on her leadership, determination, and faith. New details indicate Blanco was diagnosed with metastatic colon cancer approximately two months before her death, following the onset of severe abdominal pain in late July. Beyond her television success, Blanco maintained a career in theater and released her last studio album, ‘Lua Blanco e a Órbita’, in 2023.
