Death of Canadian animal rescuer Jesse Adams

Overview

Jesse Adams, founder of the Vancouver Island based RainCoast Dog Rescue Society, was killed in Ukraine on October 25, 2026. Adams was participating in an animal evacuation mission near Kramatorsk in eastern Ukraine when an FPV drone struck the vehicle he was using to transport animals. He was volunteering with Animal Rescue Kharkiv to evacuate animals from the Donbas region. Although he was transported to a local hospital for emergency surgery, medical staff were unable to save him.

Following his death, a petition was launched on Change.org calling for the Canadian federal government to recognize Adams with a national honour. The petition gathered over 7,000 signatures within two days. Additionally, a tribute Facebook page titled “The Amazing Stories of Jesse Adams” was created to share stories and photos of animals rescued through his work.
