Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver suffered the loss of his two-year-old son following a drowning incident at the family residence in the Houston area. According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a life-in-danger call on June 28 after the child was found unresponsive in a swimming pool. The boy was pronounced dead at a local hospital that evening. Although the incident occurred in late June, the Buffalo Bills organization and the player publicly confirmed the news in late August. General Manager Brandon Beane issued a statement describing the event as an ‘unthinkable tragedy for any parent.’ Following the public announcement, Bills quarterback Josh Allen expressed sadness regarding the loss and criticized the manner in which the news was leaked via social media before the family could address it. Allen stated he felt ‘sad and angry’ that the family’s privacy was breached. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office has since ruled the death accidental and closed the investigation, noting that no charges will be filed. Oliver has continued to participate in training camp activities while grieving, and the organization has requested privacy for the family.
