On July 17, 2026, 83-year-old French Senator François Patriat was found unconscious beside his bicycle in Pouilly-en-Auxois, Côte-d'Or. He was transported to the CHU of Dijon in serious condition. Authorities launched an investigation to determine if the incident was caused by a medical episode or a traffic accident. Following several weeks of hospitalization, Patriat died on August 19, 2026, in Dijon.
