Death of Italian entertainer Wilma De Angelis
Overview
Wilma De Angelis, a prominent Italian singer, actress, and television pioneer, has died in Milan at the age of 96.
De Angelis established a multifaceted career beginning in the 1950s as a jazz singer, earning the title ‘Reginetta del jazz italiano’ in 1956. She achieved significant fame through the Sanremo Music Festival, debuting in 1959 with ‘Nessuno’ and later finding success with ‘Patatina’ in 1961, which led to her being known as ‘Miss Patatina’.
In the late 1970s, she transitioned into television, where she became a pioneer of culinary programming. She hosted ‘Telemenù’, Italy’s first show dedicated entirely to show cooking, a role she maintained for eighteen years.
