Death of Santos FC influencer Naty Potira

Overview

Digital influencer and Santos FC supporter Natália ‘Naty’ Potira died in São Paulo at the age of 39 after a three-year battle with metastatic cervical cancer. Potira, a flight attendant and prominent figure in the football community, was widely recognized for her passionate connection to Santos FC and her role as an ambassador for the 2026 Paulistão. She used her social media platform, which reached nearly 500,000 followers, to advocate for cancer awareness, particularly through ‘Outubro Rosa’ (Pink October) campaigns. Her health struggle was well-documented; after being diagnosed in 2023 and briefly announcing remission in early 2024, the cancer returned with metastasis, leading to her hospitalization and treatment involving chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Following her passing, Santos FC and the Federação Paulista de Futebol (FPF) issued statements mourning her, describing her as an ‘eternal supporter’ whose charisma brought joy to the Vila Belmiro stadium. The football community, including star player Neymar Jr., offered tributes. Neymar had previously gifted her an official club jersey and dedicated a match victory to her during her treatment. Expressing his condolences on social media, Neymar wrote, ‘Rest in peace!! Cheer for us from up there.’ Her partner, Guilherme Kastner, also shared a tribute, describing her as his ‘best friend and the love of his life.’ Santos FC carried out its planned tribute during a match against São Paulo at the Morumbis stadium. During warm-ups, players wore special shirts for the ‘Outubro Rosa’ campaign featuring her image centrally between the club crest and the manufacturer's logo. During the match, players wore the traditional black and white striped kit with a personalized patch of her face on the sleeve. Following a 2-1 victory, the club officially dedicated the win to her.
