Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali, a pioneering Malaysian physician and public health advocate, passed away at the age of 100 on September 28, 2026, at the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur. As the wife of former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, she was a prominent figure recognized for her work in maternal and child health, family planning, and rural healthcare. She was among the first generation of Malay women to enter the medical profession, graduating in 1955. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced she would receive a state funeral with full honours. Following her state funeral prayers at Masjid As-Syarif—a mosque where she was a frequent congregant and donor—she was interred interment at Pusara Negara in Putrajaya. Putrajaya, public tributes have continued. Visitors have continued to flock to the national cemetery, been arriving as early as 7:00 AM to offer prayers, such as reciting Surah Yasin, and staying until the cemetery gates close at 10:00 PM.
