The Seattle Sounders have completed the acquisition of forward Dejan Joveljic from Sporting Kansas City for a reported $6 million fee. The 27-year-old designated player has signed a contract through 2030, which includes an option for an additional 12 months. Joveljic arrives in Seattle to address offensive struggles and scoring inefficiencies. During his tenure with Sporting KC, he recorded 26 goals and five assists in 55 matches. Prior to his time in Kansas City, he notably recorded 21 goals and eight assists for the LA Galaxy in 2024. For Sporting KC, the transfer serves as a strategic financial move. David Lee, Sporting KC President of Soccer Operations and General Manager, stated the cash-for-player trade was intended to acquire General Allocation Money (GAM) to reinvest in the roster and support long-term competitiveness. The club reportedly expects to convert up to $3 million of the fee into GAM. While the sale removes the team’s leading scorer, it provides Sporting KC with an additional designated player slot as they remain active in the transfer market. Joveljic made an immediate impact in his debut for the Sounders, scoring twice in a 2-2 draw against Chicago Fire. He found the net in the 12th and 48th minutes, earning praise from coach Brian Schmetzer for his “goal-scoring instinct.” Despite the individual success, Joveljic expressed dissatisfaction with the match result, stating he felt the team had lost the game.
