The Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) arrested former Delhi Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Satyendar Jain in connection with alleged irregularities in the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) sewage treatment plant (STP) tendering process. Investigators alleged that tender conditions were manipulated with restrictive technical specifications to favor Euroteck Environment Pvt. Ltd., limiting competition. The ACB also claimed a bribe trail involving the former DJB CEO and noted that the capacity of the Rohini STP was arbitrarily increased without a technical feasibility study, leading to a cost escalation of approximately Rs 123 crore. Special Judge Dig Vinay Singh of the Rouse Avenue Courts has since granted bail to Jain. In the ruling, the court criticized the ACB for what it termed an “arbitrary” arrest, highlighting an “unexplained and extraordinary delay” of 27 months between the registration of the FIR in May 2024 and Jain’s arrest on August 18. The judge noted that the evidence presented was “prima facie insufficient” to deny bail and determined that Jain was not a flight risk. Furthermore, the court observed that there was no electronic evidence, such as WhatsApp chats or call records, directly linking Jain to kickbacks.
