The 2026 Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) election results have been finalized, confirming a dominant performance by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). Following a voter turnout of 40.46 per cent—the highest in the last three years—the ABVP secured three of the four central panel positions. Yash Dabas won the President post, defeating the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) candidate Vijay Shankar Meena. The ABVP also claimed the Secretary post via Riya Chhabri and the Joint Secretary position with Lakshyaraj Singh. In a notable departure from traditional party dominance, independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen won the Vice-President position with 30,615 votes, defeating both the ABVP and NSUI candidates. Shokeen campaigned on student welfare issues such as rent control and hostel availability, notably campaigning barefoot to highlight grievances following a recent building collapse in Satya Niketan. Following the election, the newly elected office-bearers may skip a formal oath-taking ceremony as the university administration prioritizes addressing student accommodation issues. This follows the early September building collapse in Satya Niketan that resulted in seven deaths, including several students, which has prompted demands for safety audits of private paying guest (PG) accommodations. Legal challenges regarding the election results have faced setbacks. The Delhi High Court dismissed a plea filed by NSUI’s Vijay Shankar Meena, which alleged large-scale electoral malpractice and partisan campaigning by university officials in favor of the ABVP.
