Dengue fever outbreak in Chad

Overview

In early October 2026, health authorities in Chad issued alerts regarding the spread of dengue fever across several provinces, including Ouaddaï, Wadi Fira, Sila, and the capital, N’Djamena. Officials identified Aedes mosquitoes as the primary threat and urged the public to use insecticide-treated nets and eliminate standing water.

By late October, the scale of the outbreak increased. Health Minister Dr. Abdelmadjid Abderahim reported 3,846 suspected cases across six provinces, with 299 confirmed cases and 11 deaths. In response, Prime Minister Allah Maye Halina convened an interministerial meeting to coordinate a national mobilization. The government has ordered intensified ground and aerial spraying operations and increased efforts in environmental sanitation to contain the transmission.
