Health authorities and institutions in Argentina continue to employ various methods to prevent the spread of mosquito-borne diseases like dengue, Zika, and Chikungunya. In Salta, local authorities, the police, and the Argentine Army have conducted cleaning and waste removal operations in public spaces such as the Esteco canal and El Aybal neighborhood to eliminate debris and used tires. Nationwide, strategies include biological control and educational outreach. In Buenos Aires, the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) has distributed native fish, such as ‘madrecitas de ~~agua’,~~ agua’ (Cnesterodon decemmaculatus), to consume mosquito larvae in water reservoirs; these fish are capable of consuming up to 100 larvae per day. In Oberá, Misiones, authorities are utilizing the LIRAa tool to map infestation levels. Recent efforts have coincided with the International Day against Dengue. In Entre Ríos, officials have highlighted that winter is a critical period for prevention, as Aedes aegypti eggs can survive low temperatures and hatch upon the arrival of spring. In La Rioja, health systems are actively monitoring for both dengue and chikungunya. Authorities in cities such as Buenos Aires, Paraná, and Oberá are conducting ‘descacharrización’ campaigns to eliminate potential breeding sites. Experts have noted that climatic phenomena like El Niño may increase rainfall and create more breeding grounds, though water scarcity can also increase risk through improper storage.
