Detroit Rocket Mortgage Classic final edition underway

Entities: PGA Tour · Detroit Golf Club · Silverado Resort – North Course · Tyler Rae · 2026 Rocket Classic

Overview

In July 2026 the PGA Tour confirmed that the Rocket Mortgage Classic would hold its last tournament at Detroit Golf Club from July 30 to August 2. The event’s final edition was highlighted by the participation of world No. 7 Chris Gotterup and a host of other top‑ranked players such as Cameron Young, Russell Henley and Jordan Spieth. Alongside the tournament, organizers launched a Youth Golf and Tech Expo on July 22, partnering with Black Tech Saturdays to give roughly 100 Black middle‑school and college‑bound students hands‑on experience with golf practice, robotics and game‑development, plus mentorship and scholarship opportunities.

The full 144‑player field, released on July 25, included 21 of the world’s top‑50 golfers and featured major champions, past winners and rising talents such as Wyndham Clark, Hideki Matsuyama, Xander Schauffele, Aldrich Potgieter, Brooks Koepka, Tony Finau, Akshay Bhatia and Sungjae Im. The tournament carries a $10 million purse and 500 FedEx Cup points, marking the 33rd stop on the 2026 PGA Tour schedule and the final year of the event’s current contract.

The competition opened on Thursday, July 30, on a newly renovated course designed by Tyler Rae. The redesign lowered the par to 70, added strategic bunkering, raised the greens and replaced the former pond on the 14th hole with fescue, expanding the field to 145 after alternates. Notable absences include Phil Mickelson, now with LIV Golf, and Jason Day, who withdrew with a back injury and was replaced by Hayden Springer. With the FedExCup Playoffs approaching, players are eager to secure a spot among the top 70 for the postseason.
