Deutsche Bahn supervised child travel service
Overview
Deutsche Bahn is launching a supervised travel service for children aged six to 14 called ‘DB Junior Express’. Scheduled to begin on August 21, the service will initially operate on Fridays and Sundays on specific long-distance ICE routes, including connections between Berlin and Munich, Munich and Cologne, and Frankfurt am Main and Hamburg.
Under this program, up to 14 children per connection will be accompanied by pedagogically trained staff in a reserved area. The service includes age-appropriate activities such as books, games, and crafts. To maintain safety, staff will receive children at a central meeting point at the departure station and personally deliver them to designated collectors at the destination.
The service costs 69 euros per journey in addition to the child's ticket. Bookings can be made through the Deutsche Bahn website or the DB Navigator app at least 24 hours in advance. Michael Peterson, a member of Deutsche Bahn’s management board, noted that the service is intended to provide safety and flexibility for families while allowing young passengers more independence.
