Development and social initiatives in Jammu and Kashmir

Overview

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has been conducting various engagements in Jammu and Kashmir focused on social unity, humanitarian welfare, and regional development.

In August 2026, Sinha addressed the Foundation Day of KP Volunteers, praising their humanitarian work since the 2020 pandemic, including medical consultations and financial assistance. During Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, he urged the youth to reject communal bitterness and build trust to foster an inclusive nation.

As part of the Vibrant Villages Programme, Sinha visited strategic border villages in the Kathua district. He reported significant infrastructure improvements since 2019, noting that all 216 border villages in Kathua are now connected by roads and have full electrification. He also highlighted economic advancements, including a 30 per cent increase in rural incomes, a halving of urban migration, and the establishment of over 1,300 self-help groups through the National Rural Livelihood Mission.

Expanding on humanitarian initiatives, Sinha directed officials to strengthen the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) network. He instructed Deputy Commissioners to intensify resource mobilisation and suggested expanding services into remote and border regions, such as establishing diagnostic centres to improve healthcare accessibility. Furthermore, he emphasized coordinated efforts to eliminate tuberculosis through early diagnosis and urged the Red Cross to bolster anti-drug campaigns to support a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir.
