Overview

In late August 2026, regional leaders in Assam and Odisha engaged with central government officials to address welfare and disaster relief. In Assam, discussions focused on flood relief following damage to an estimated 26,681 houses, resulting in approximately 480 crore rupees in damages. The Union Minister approved approximately 5,000 crore rupees for residential housing under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin. The central government allocated Rs 1,929.70 crore to Assam for the 2026-27 financial year under the Viksit Bharat - Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) scheme, which replaced MGNREGA. Additionally, the Assam Cabinet approved the ‘Viksit Assam’ plan, a five-year, ₹50,000 crore program targeting connectivity, healthcare, education, power, and flood control. This plan includes a 30 MW solar power project in the Goalpara district.
