DFB-Pokal tournament fixtures and club updates
Overview
The DFB-Pokal tournament features various upcoming matchups involving several German football clubs. Karlsruher SC (KSC) advanced to the second round with a 2-1 comeback victory against Preußen Münster on August 21. However, KSC has recently faced roster challenges due to injuries, including muscle tears for Kevin Wiethaup and Sebastian Jung, and ankle issues for Moritz Broschisnki. In recent match action, Energie Cottbus secured a victory against KSC, where coach Maximilian Senft utilized a 4-4-2 formation.
The second-round draw, conducted at the German Football Museum in Dortmund with former world champion Bastian Schweinsteiger as the official, has established several high-profile matchups scheduled for October 27 and 28, 2026. For the first time in 18 years, all 18 Bundesliga clubs have advanced to this stage. Notable fixtures include defending champions Bayern Munich hosting 1. FC Magdeburg at the Allianz Arena, and Borussia Dortmund hosting Werder Bremen. Other significant matchups include Hamburger SV against Eintracht Frankfurt, FC Köln hosting Union Berlin, and RB Leipzig facing Rot-Weiss Essen. Additionally, amateur and lower-league teams are represented, such as SSV Jeddeloh II facing Hertha BSC. New fixtures confirmed through the draw also include SC Paderborn against VfB Stuttgart.
The draw was moved from its usual Sunday slot to Saturday to accommodate regional elections in Saxony-Anhalt. This season marks the first time the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) will be implemented as early as the second round of the competition. For smaller clubs, the tournament offers significant financial incentives, with prize money increasing substantially in each subsequent round.
