Digital governance developments in Greece
Overview
Digital governance initiatives in Greece have progressed from individual administrative recognition to broader regional technological showcases.
In September 2026, the Decentralized Administration of Macedonia–Thrace received the ‘Best New Idea’ award at the Digital Governance Awards. The recognition was for a proposal to develop a ‘Unified Information and Citizen Service Platform’ designed to create a multilayered digital infrastructure for public and government use.
By October 2026, the Central Macedonia Region expanded its digital governance presence through participation in the 90th Thessaloniki International Fair. The regional showcase included discussions on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and quantum computing. This period also saw the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Central Macedonia Region and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, focusing on the use of Open Data to support scientific research and innovation.
