Digital parking rollout in Italy

In July 2026 EasyPark introduced Apple Pay and Google Pay as payment options for its parking service across Italy, expanding the range of contact‑less methods available to drivers.

A month later, Italian municipalities reported accelerating adoption of digital parking solutions. In Viareggio, the Mover app saw short‑stay payments rise from 9 % in 2022 to 33.6 % in early 2026, while traditional meters declined. Transaction volume and revenue from the app more than doubled, contributing to a near‑tripling of overall parking‑related income. Meanwhile, Rome entered the operational phase of its SOSPAS smart‑parking project, deploying thousands of sensors in city garages to provide real‑time space data and integrate with payment apps, car‑sharing and EV chargers. These developments indicate a rapid shift toward mobile payments and sensor‑enabled parking management throughout Italian cities.
