Digitalization of Polish utilities and industry

Poland is undergoing a broad digital transformation across utility management, industrial operations, and national policy.

In the utility sector, water and electricity providers are transitioning to remote and smart metering. Water companies are adopting radio-based technology to reduce water losses and improve leak detection, with some firms planning to replace hundreds of thousands of units to provide hourly usage updates. Simultaneously, the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management is allocating 1 billion PLN to install approximately 5 million smart meters. This energy initiative connects to the Central System of Energy Market Information (CSIRE) to replace estimated billing with real-time consumption data.

Industrial digitalization is also expanding, with companies utilizing RFID technology and specialized software for large-scale inventory and asset management. On a strategic level, national discussions have emerged regarding digital sovereignty, the potential implementation of a digital tax to combat disinformation, and the use of open-source software to protect public interests against technology monopolies.
