Diners Club credit card restructuring in Japan
Overview
Mitsui Sumitomo Trust Club has introduced ‘Diners Club Gold’ in Japan, a new credit card tier specifically designed to attract consumers aged 20 to 39. The card, which began issuance on October 1, 2026, is available via online application only.
The product features a 10x point bonus on various services, including Uber, Starbucks Card auto-charges, and several subscription platforms. It also offers benefits such as a six-month trial of Ikkyu Premier ‘Platinum Member’ status and cashback for Tabelog Premium fees. To encourage usage, the annual fee of 11,000 yen is waived for the first year and for subsequent years if annual spending exceeds 1 million yen.
This launch is part of a broader restructuring of the brand’s product lineup. By January 2027, the existing ‘Diners Club Card’ will be renamed ‘Diners Club Platinum’, establishing a four-tier hierarchy consisting of Gold, Platinum, Premium, and Royal Premium.
