Diplomatic activities of Turkish Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş

Turkish Grand National Assembly Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş has engaged in a series of high-level diplomatic activities across Europe and Central Asia.

In Rome, Kurtulmuş participated in the Conference of Speakers of European Parliaments. During meetings with Italian and Moldovan parliamentary leaders, he advocated for strengthening strategic and economic ties, addressed regional security concerns regarding the Russia-Ukraine war and military actions in Gaza, and expressed interest in revisiting Turkey-EU relations despite perceived “double standards” in the membership process.

Following these meetings, Kurtulmuş traveled to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, for the 15th General Assembly of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-Speaking Countries (TÜRKPA). Under the theme “Inter-parliamentary Cooperation in the Turkic World in the Age of Artificial Intelligence and Technological Progress,” Kurtulmuş emphasized that the Turkic world is positioned to become an “alternative center of attraction in a shifting, multipolar global system.” He specifically highlighted the strategic importance of artificial intelligence in economy, education, and public administration, urging Turkic nations to lead in technological development.

The assembly also featured remarks from Ziya Öztürkler, Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic of Northern Cyprus, who advocated for the sovereign equality of the Turkish Cypriot people and expressed the goal of achieving full membership within TÜRKPA. Kyrgyzstan's Speaker of Parliament, Marlen Mamataliyev, hosted the event, stressing the role of parliaments in strengthening cooperation through digital transformation and cultural diplomacy.
