Disability support and mobility aid in Turkey

Overview

In Turkey, individual families have reported significant hardships regarding the care of disabled relatives. In Malatya, a caregiver requested government and Ministry of Health assistance to manage intensive home care for children with physical disabilities and SSPE. Similarly, in Hakkari, a resident appealed to authorities and philanthropists for a motorized wheelchair to assist his elderly mother.

Following these types of needs, the Ortahisar Municipality in Trabzon implemented a project titled “Overcoming Obstacles Together by Recycling.” Managed by the Climate Change and Zero Waste Directorate, the initiative uses funds from recycling efforts to provide motorized wheelchairs to citizens. To date, the program has delivered 10 motorized vehicles to individuals in need, aiming to combine environmental protection with improved mobility for people with disabilities.
