On September 1, 2026, veteran Ghanaian gospel musician Bernice Offei was reported missing in the Agbogba area of Accra. Her disappearance prompted widespread concern and a public appeal for information from her family and colleagues. Following the disappearance, it was confirmed that the 63-year-old singer had died. Her passing was officially announced on September 12, 2026, by fellow musician Nii Noi and producer Kwesi Ernest, who described her as a ‘gospel music legend’. Offei was a highly decorated artist in Ghana’s Christian music scene, having received awards such as Best Female Vocal Performer and Songwriter of the Year at the 2009 Ghana Music Awards. Her musical legacy includes six albums, such as ‘We Are Victors’, ‘Me Kosu’, and ‘Grateful’, along with hit songs including ‘Life Is Short’, ‘Hold On’, and ‘Kaa She Gbeyei’. In addition to her musical career, Offei was academically accomplished, holding an MPhil in Crop Science from the University of Ghana and an MSc in Information Technology from the United Kingdom. She also worked as a professional banker with Standard Chartered Bank. Following her death, her former manager, Kwasi Ernest, revealed that Offei had been privately battling dementia for approximately four to five years. He noted that the progressive illness contributed to the incident where she became disoriented and unable to find her home. In tributes, Minority Leader in Parliament Alexander Afenyo-Markin praised her as a significant figure in the gospel music community.
