A planned live-action Power Rangers reboot for Disney+ has been cancelled after approximately 18 months of development. Initially, Hasbro confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con that the series was in early development under showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz. The project intended to feature a new team of heroes inheriting the classic colors in a world that had forgotten the Rangers’ existence. Ultimately, Disney+ decided not to move forward with the series. The cancellation was reportedly driven by business and budgetary concerns rather than creative differences. A significant economic factor cited was that Disney does not own the Power Rangers intellectual property, which belongs to Hasbro, making the high investment required for a large-scale superhero series less financially attractive. Reports indicate that the high costs associated with visual effects, costumes, and action sequences made the investment risky for a licensed property.
