Dominican digital media organization activities

Overview

Digital media organizations in the Dominican Republic have engaged in professional development and commemorative activities. The Dominican Association of Christian Communicators (ADOCOC) Santiago branch and the Sociedad de la Palabra Multimedia launched a training conference titled ‘Creando un Medio Digital desde 0’ to assist journalists and content creators in building sustainable digital projects and monetization strategies.

Concurrently, the Dominican Society of Digital Media (SODOMEDI) marked its eighth anniversary with a floral offering at the Altar de la Patria. During these commemorations, SODOMEDI President Amelia Reyes highlighted the necessity of ethical principles and truth in digital communication. Reyes also addressed legislative concerns, stating that while journalists must remain responsible, new legislation should not serve as a ‘gag law’ or a tool to intimidate media outlets.

Expanding its collaborative reach, SODOMEDI recently signed two agreements with the Association of Hotels La Romana Bayahibe (AHRB) and the La Romana Bayahibe Tourism Cluster (CTRB). These partnerships aim to provide digital journalists and editors with specialized information, studies, and sources regarding tourism development in the La Romana and Bayahibe destinations. The agreements include annual training sessions on topics such as sustainability and data verification, as well as direct communication channels with tourism representatives. Andrés Fernández, president of both the AHRB and CTRB, emphasized that the cooperation must respect the editorial independence of each media outlet.
