Overview

In late July 2026, the National Association of Agricultural Professionals (ANPA) staged a peaceful march on Santo Domingo’s National Palace, demanding a pension for 1,435 agro‑professionals, salary increases for technical staff and the hiring of 500 new specialists. The protest followed a promised response from President Luis Abinader that had not materialised after more than nine weeks.

A week later, the Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Agriculture, together with the Ministry of Public Administration, announced a joint job‑classification process aimed at creating a more equitable salary scale for public‑sector employees with long service records. The initiative includes the payment of 2024 career bonuses, a 2025 performance bonus, the reactivation of a previously suspended loan program, and expanded training courses for technicians and professionals. These steps address many of the demands raised by the agricultural workers, signalling a governmental response to the earlier protests.
