Dominican Republic health service reforms

Overview

In late July 2026 the Dominican Republic’s National Health Service (SNS) announced two linked initiatives. Dr. Julio Landrón, SNS executive director, swore in Dr. Erimar Grullón as the new director of Hospital Provincial Toribio Bencosme in Moca and inaugurated the first phase of a nearly one‑billion‑peso renovation of Hospital Salvador B. Gautier, adding emergency beds, a trauma‑shock unit, upgraded imaging and laboratory facilities, and new operating rooms while keeping the hospital open.

A few days later, SNS leadership reinforced the reforms. Dr. Landrón ordered the removal of administrative barriers at Hospital Jacinto Ignacio Mañón, prohibiting any charge to subsidized patients and eliminating denial of service for lack of ID. He also directed the creation of a mini‑intensive‑care unit, climate‑control upgrades, and a comprehensive renovation slated for year‑end, noting the facility as the 97th with zero debt under the current administration.
