Dominican Republic illegal fuel enforcement
Overview
Authorities in the Dominican Republic have conducted operations to dismantle clandestine fuel storage and distribution sites.
In San Francisco de Macorís, the Specialized Body for Fuel Control and Merchandise Trade (CECCOM) dismantled an illegal center on Libertad Avenue. Officials seized 6,377 gallons of diesel, valued at approximately RD$1.4 million, along with a large-capacity storage tank and distribution equipment. The operation was conducted under a judicial order following Law No. 112-00 on Hydrocarbons.
In San Antonio de Guerra, a coordinated effort involving CECCOM, the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs (MICM), the General Directorate of Migration (DGM), and the Ministry of Housing, Habitat, and Edifices (MIVHED) dismantled the “Fábrica Cartesa” industrial complex. Inspectors found the facility, which includes three warehouses and a four-story building, was operating without commercial licenses or land-use certificates.
During the inspection, CECCOM discovered an unregulated fuel warehouse on the premises, seizing a 5,000-liter tank and 1,000 gallons of diesel valued at approximately RD$2,250,000. Additionally, authorities identified foreign personnel with irregular migratory status. Minister of Industry and Commerce Eduardo Sanz Lovatón stated that while the country remains open to foreign investment, all businesses must strictly comply with the legal framework.
