Dominican Republic judicial and administrative developments

Overview

In late October 2026, the Dominican Republic saw significant activity within its legal and administrative sectors. The Ministry of Justice, led by Antoliano Peralta Romero, swore in members of an Electoral Committee and a Technical Team. These bodies are tasked with organizing the election for the Government Integrity and Regulatory Compliance Commission (CIGCN) to ensure transparency and legality in public institutions.

Concurrently, the Constitutional Court issued an order for the mandatory appearance of Smaily Rodríguez, the head prosecutor for the Duarte Judicial District. The order, issued by President Napoleón R. Estévez Lavandier, follows Rodríguez’s failure to attend a hearing regarding a constitutional review of an amparo sentence. The court has scheduled further proceedings for October 30, utilizing a legal measure of ‘conducencia’ to ensure her presence.
