Overview

The Dominican Republic has taken steps to expand its labor services and oversight. In early October 2026, the Minister of Labor, Eddy Olivares Ortega, inaugurated a new Local Labor Representation office in Santo Domingo Este to improve access to mediation, guidance, and conflict resolution. Following these administrative expansions, the Ministry of Labor conducted inspections of 101 commercial establishments owned by Chinese investors across Santo Domingo, the National District, San Pedro de Macorís, and Higüey. These operations resulted in 1,016 citations for various violations, including the failure to pay bonuses, overtime, and severance benefits, as well as violations regarding the nationalization of work. Consequently, authorities ordered the suspension of operations at 24 companies due to threats to worker safety and integrity.
