In August 2026, the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) intensified its opposition to President Luis Abinader and the ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM). Party leaders, including Johnny Pujols and Yván Lorenzo, accused the administration of failing to fulfill 2020 campaign promises regarding crime reduction, anti-corruption, and food prices.
