Dominican Vice President regional development dialogues

Overview

Vice President Raquel Peña has conducted a series of territorial dialogues across different provinces in the Dominican Republic to identify local development priorities.

In Nagua, María Trinidad Sánchez, Peña met with representatives from approximately 17 institutions to discuss strengthening tourism, urban and rural mobility, and the recovery of community recreational spaces.

In Hermanas Mirabal province, organized by the local Chamber of Commerce and Production, the Vice President met with social, community, and business representatives. Discussions focused on infrastructure needs, such as the Septentrional road corridor, the reconstruction of the Salcedo-Gaspar Hernández route, and the construction of a dam on the Cenoví River. Other community priorities included agricultural roads, educational facilities, and social centers for seniors and childcare.

During the Hermanas Mirabal session, a power outage occurred while community members were discussing recurring electricity service failures. Participants also presented proposals for the advancement of the Mirabal Law and the expansion of community care spaces. In response, government representatives and social sectors agreed to hold technical meetings to evaluate the feasibility of these initiatives and establish priority mechanisms for follow-up.
