Donald Trump criticism of journalists

Donald Trump has engaged in a series of personal attacks against members of the press. Initially, the President targeted New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman on Truth Social, calling her a ‘fraud’ and a ‘stalker’ in response to reporting regarding his attendance plans for the September 11th anniversary ceremonies. He dismissed the reporting as ‘corrupt news’ and questioned the validity of her Pulitzer Prize.

This criticism of the media expanded as Trump also announced intentions to report NBC journalist Kristen Welker to the FCC, alleging ‘intentional inaccuracy’ concerning his stance on Republican candidates.

Following Haberman’s commentary on CNN regarding the lack of public polling showing the President is popular and his political challenges regarding affordability, Trump escalated his rhetoric. He issued further insults on Truth Social, labeling Haberman a ‘scammer’ and a ‘phony’ while accusing her of false reporting. He also threatened legal action against both Haberman and The New York Times. CNN’s Jake Tapper has publicly defended Haberman against these attacks.
