Doping violations by Indian athletes
Overview
Indian athletes have faced significant disciplinary actions following positive tests for prohibited substances.
In September 2026, tennis player Parikshit Somani received a four-year ban from the International Tennis Integrity Agency after testing positive for trimetazidine during an ATP Challenger event in Kazakhstan in July 2025. Somani’s defense, which claimed food contamination via a family member’s medication, was dismissed by a tribunal as ‘scientifically implausible,’ ‘highly speculative,’ and ‘unconvincing.’ His results from the Astana event and subsequent matches have been annulled.
In October 2026, the International Paralympic Committee issued a three-year ban to para athlete Anmol Vasistha. Vasistha tested positive for a metabolite of dehydrochloromethyl-testosterone (DHCMT) during the New Delhi World Para Athletics Grand Prix in March 2026. Vasistha accepted the violation, resulting in the disqualification of his results and the forfeiture of all medals and prizes earned during the competition.
