DreamWorks Animation is preparing the release of its original animated film, ‘Forgotten Island’, which draws inspiration from Filipino mythology and folklore. The story centers on two friends, Jo and Raissa, who travel to the mystical island of Nakali and encounter creatures such as the ‘Dreaded Manananggal’. The narrative explores the Filipino concept of ‘dekapwa’, relating to shared identity and connection, and features creatures inspired by mythology such as the ‘Aswang’ and ‘Duwende’. The plot involves the protagonists' struggle to escape the island before they lose their memories of one another. Directed by Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado, the film utilizes various animation styles, ranging from 2-D anime influences to comic book-style paneling. The voice cast includes H. E. R., Liza Soberano, Lea Salonga, Jo Koy, Manny Jacinto, and Dolly de Leon. A new trailer released by Universal Pictures confirms the inclusion of Dave Franco and Jenny Slate in the voice cast. Promotional efforts have expanded with the release of new posters and the debut of ‘BRB’, a bilingual collaborative single from the official soundtrack. Composed by Ryan Tedder and Gabriella Wilson, the track features H. E. R. and Liza Soberano and incorporates the Filipino phrase ‘babalik ako’ (I’ll be right back). The full soundtrack, which includes contributors such as BINI, SB19, and KATSEYE’s Sophia Laforteza, is scheduled for digital release on 18 September 2026. New marketing initiatives include a global collaboration with Jollibee. Starting 14 September, the restaurant chain will launch activations in North America, Jollibee, offering ‘Forgotten Island’ meal bundles, Calamansi Lemonade, and merchandise such as collectible charms bundles and a retro streetwear collection. The soundtrack also features the song ‘A Parallel World’ by the Filipino girl group BINI. merchandise. Release details vary by region. Universal Pictures Australia scheduled the film for Australian cinemas on 17 September, while a wider theatrical release is set for 23 September 2026. In the Philippines, SM Cinema will host Brazil, the film nationwide. is scheduled for release on 24 September, with special advance screenings available during ‘Cinema Week’ from 10 to 16 September.
