Drift Protocol exploit fund laundering
Overview
Following an April exploit of the Solana-based perpetuals protocol Drift Protocol, which resulted in a total loss of approximately $296 million, funds linked to the incident have recently been moved to obscure their destination.
On October 20, an address associated with the heist moved 25,710 ETH, valued at roughly $61.5 million, into the Tornado Cash mixing service through a series of tranches. This activity follows a similar laundering event in July. Mandiant has attributed the original attack to the North Korean hacking group UNC6862.
Analysts report that while significant amounts are being moved through mixers to hide the connection between source and destination addresses, a large portion of the stolen assets remains. Approximately 81,454 ETH, valued at nearly $195 million, is still held across 71 addresses linked to the exploiter, leaving thousands of users awaiting compensation.
