Drone attacks on Colombian police
Overview
In mid‑July 2026 a drone strike in Arenal, Bolívar injured four police officers and disrupted the local power supply. A month later, a series of attacks hit police facilities in the Huila department. On 2 August a bomb exploded at the Íquira police station, wounding an officer and killing a police dog, prompting the mayor to impose road closures, a ban on motorcycle vendors and a midnight curfew through 10 August. Five days later, drones dropped fragmentation grenades on the Teruel police station and mayor’s office, causing minor injuries to two internet‑service workers. Authorities have preliminarily linked the Huila incidents to dissident factions of the FARC, and the area remains cordoned off for investigation. The pattern shows a spread of drone‑based assaults from Bolívar to Huila, accompanied by heightened security measures and attribution to armed rebel groups.
