Drought in Kulonprogo Regency

Overview

Drought conditions in Kulonprogo Regency have expanded from three sub-districts to five, including Pengasih and Panjatan. Residents in these areas have begun requesting clean water supplies from the Kulonprogo Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD).

Setiawan Tri Widada, Head of BPBD Kulonprogo, noted that while the drought has spread, the impact in the newly affected areas is not yet massive. Current water distribution is limited, with 15,000 liters delivered to Pengasih and 10,000 liters to Panjatan, covering one village in each area. The drought has affected 229 people in Pengasih and 102 people in Panjatan. The dry season has persisted since late June 2026, causing local wells to run dry due to geographic factors and a lack of rainfall.
