Dutch business park sustainability initiatives

Overview

Efforts to enhance the sustainability and climate resilience of business parks in the Netherlands have progressed from localized projects to broader provincial strategies.

In Voorst, entrepreneurs at the local business park have begun implementing specific greening measures, such as installing green facades, planting trees, and managing rainwater to combat heat and drought. Local officials noted that these investments help businesses remain competitive and attract talent. This local movement is supported by upcoming workshops organized by municipal and provincial authorities.

Expanding on these themes, the province of Drenthe has launched a strategic initiative titled ‘Drentse bedrijventerreinen klaar voor de toekomst’ (Drenthe business parks ready for the future). This program aims to address regional challenges across more than 120 business parks, including grid congestion, climate change, and the transition to a circular economy. The provincial plan focuses on facilitating stakeholder collaboration to implement solutions like energy sharing, water storage, and increased greenery.
