Dutch drug laboratory investigations and raids

Overview

Dutch authorities have conducted several operations targeting large-scale drug production facilities across the Netherlands.

In late July, four men were placed in extended pre-trial detention following the discovery of an XTC production laboratory in The Hague. Police uncovered thousands of litres of chemicals and substantial cash after responding to reports of an unusual smell. Investigations are ongoing to identify the broader network behind the operation.

In mid-August, police dismantled two additional laboratories in Enschede and IJsselmuiden. The Enschede operation, conducted by the Special Interventions Service, required officers to wear gas masks due to chemical exposure risks. In IJsselmuiden, an explosion injured two suspects, including a 57-year-old director of a bankrupt installation company. Investigators are examining potential links between the two sites, specifically focusing on whether the bankrupt company played a role in the operations.
