Dutch electricity grid infrastructure expansion

Overview

TenneT and the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs are implementing significant upgrades to the Netherlands' high-voltage electricity grid to support the energy transition, electric transport, and heat pump demand. Physical infrastructure projects include the expansion of the 380 kV station in Geervliet to strengthen the supply to the Botlek area and upgrades to the high-voltage connection between Krimpen aan den IJssel and Diemen.

To fund these and other infrastructure needs, TenneT Netherlands issued a 1.5 billion euro green bond with a five-year maturity. This issuance, backed by a Dutch State guarantee, concluded the company’s 2026 financing program, bringing the total raised through state-guaranteed green bonds for the year to 6 billion euros. The funds are designated for investments in the electricity grid, connection services, and interconnectors.
